Hon'ble Dr. Subesh Kumar Das

Dr Subesh Kumar Das was born on 28th December 1955. He joined the Indian Administrative Service on 1st September1982 and retired from the service on 31st December 2015.

His academic experience started with specialization in science and engineering, but then he shifted to social sciences. He did B. Tech in Electronics and M. Tech in Computer Science from Calcutta University during 1976 to 1981. He then did M. Sc. in Economics (Social Development) from University of Swansea, UK during 1995-96. He was awarded Ph. D. from Cornell University, USA, School of Industrial Relations in 2006. All through his carrier he received 1st Class or A-Grade.

He has many awards and scholarships in his credit like National Scholarships, Fellowship under Colombo Plan for study in UK, Fellowship from Cornell University (1999-2003), Research grants from Mario Einaudi Centre, Cornell University, and Fellowship from American Institution of Indian Studies.

Worked in several responsible positions in the state government, which includes District Magistrate, Howrah, Labour Commissioner, Labour Secretary, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, and Planning. After retirement he worked as Director General, Administrative Training Institute, West Bengal during 2016-2017, before joining as Member (A), State Administrative Tribunal, West Bengal.

He has published a book: Managing People at Work – Employment Relations in Globalising India, which was published by SAGE Publications internationally in December 2010. He has more than 20 published papers to his credit in reputed international and national journals and conferences in India and abroad.
